Research and Planning: Shot Types

Here are some shot types that i have described with pictures.

Research and Planning: Evaluation of Magazine

The cover follows the three colour scheme - red, white and black. I feel the colours work well together but i need to bring the colours together more to make them work.
The contents and cover both use the same fonts, linking them together. However, the use of a black background for the contents page and the white background on the cover, splits the two up.  I could improve this by using similar colours for the backgrounds.
The font sizes on the contents page are roughly the right size, but the headings for the stories could be smaller. This could be improved by adding more stories so the fonts don't have to be as large.
The photographs and pictures are appropriate for the magazine as they picture students and a map of the college.
I feel that the use of I.T  appropriate for this task as i have managed to produce a cover and contents page that is relevant to the college theme.
The stories on the cover and contents page are both relevant to the magazine and practical for students. However, they could do with more as the contents page seems empty.
Overall i feel that my magazine cover and contents page is good yet they need more stories and they also need to link together visually.

Research and Planning: Interviews of students

After interviewing some students about general college life and what they would like to be included in a magazine i came to the conclusion that my magazine should :
  • Have stories about: activities going on throughout the college, college success stories and sports news. Another key factor is that the students reading the magazine must be able to relate to the stories.
  • Should have a masthead that: has both a modern style and colour that attracts the eye but links well to the magazine.

Research and Planning: Medium Close Up

My research in magazine covers has brought me to the conclusion that a medium close up image of the college student is a necessary factor for my cover.
As you can see, a medium close up consists of the character in the photographs head, shoulders and the top of their chest visible.

Research and Planning: Magazine Cover

I decided that in order to create my own magazine cover, it would be crucial for me to understand what a cover has to have to encourage their target audience:
  • The masthead, written in a modern colour and style, shows the reader that it is a college magazine as the masthead both says college and is the same colour as all the other titles to the stories linked to college students.
  • The target audience is also shown by the image of a student and to make sure he looks like a college student, he's carrying textbooks.
  • The cover has stories that college students can relate to with titles such as "Thank God It's Friday's" which appeal to college students as its highlighting the end of the week.
  • The main colour scheme, green, white and black, links the entire cover together.
  • The cover also contains a barcode and price, an issue number and a slugline.

Research and Planning: In Design Taster

  • Inserted column guides,
  • Added film review from a word.doc,
  • Inserted images of film after saving them to a folder,
  • exported file as .jpg,
  • saved on blog.

Research & Planning: Skin tutorial

I used the brush tool on a low opacity to add a new hair colour, lipstick, blusher and eye make up

Research and Planning: Intoduction to Photoshop

I used a the colour balance tool to change the colour of the CD and to also make the french horn have a more brassy effect to it.  I then used a warp effect on the background to make all of the notes look more liquid
